Recognizing False Teachers

“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” – Matthew 7:15

False teachers are cleverly disguised, and in our day, there are many.

They are disguised so that the sheep, perhaps lacking in knowledge, will not notice their true nature, until they are already established among the sheep in a local church. Only then do the wolves begin to show their teeth and thus, their unregenerate nature.

It is of the utmost necessity that Christians learn to recognize false teachers – and laymen.

They do not teach that there is no God, nor that the Bible is not His inspired Word.

They are well versed in doctrines. They will appear zealous for the salvation of all men. There is much truth in the Gospel they proclaim, yet their doctrine contains enough Satanic poison to mislead anyone who pays attention to them, heeding their message.

They offer wonderful promises, with just enough deception to put death into the pot of stew for all who taste it, unless by God’s providence, some Elisha hears their cry and puts unpolluted meal in the pot “that they may eat” and be revived.II Kings 4:39-41.

God’s people, the Church alone, must not merely read, but study the Bible prayerfully to learn the counsel and will of God for and in us. Only then will we serve Him faithfully and realize His fullest blessings of saving grace through the shed blood of His Son, Jesus Christ.
