Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. – Hebrews 1:1-2
“by His Son.” An important phrase. There is only one Son of God, and it is through Him whom God the Father has spoken to us. That is what Scripture teaches. Scripture alone is the revelation of God to man.
Yet some say God has spoken and revealed things through themselves, things not found in Scripture. Go figure. The Christian faith is based on the revelation found in Scripture alone.
Mark Driscoll has claimed extra-biblical revelation, and so has John Piper.
Listen brethren, once you claim it, you deny or reject Biblical Christianity.
You have no biblical claim to being Christian.
Mark Driscoll claims it here. John Piper, here:
Pastor John Piper has placed on record, on his Desiring God website, his experience of hearing God speak to him.
‘Let me tell you about a most wonderful experience I had early Monday morning, March 19, 2007, a little after six o’clock. God actually spoke to me. There is no doubt that it was God. I heard the words in my head just as clearly as when a memory of a conversation passes across your consciousness. The words were in English, but they had about them an absolutely self-authenticating ring of truth. I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that God still speaks today.’
