Agreeing With John Piper

On the night of the tornados striking Oklahoma recently, John Piper tweeted two passages from the book of Job.

  1. @JohnPiper: “Your sons and daughters were eating and a great wind struck the house, and it fell upon them, and they are dead.” Job 1:19
  2. @JohnPiper: “Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped.” Job 1:20

Many saw that as insensitive, if not worse.

I think Dr. Piper was spot on.

While some were calling the tornados a ‘natural evil’ which is totally unbiblical and unhelpful, Dr. Piper, human as he is, as we all are, was spot on in directing us to the fact that God’s sovereignty is the first thing we should look to and think of in the face of such a ‘natural disaster’.

Well done John Piper, well done.
