Only Fools Charge the Gates of Hell

Brethren, beware of anyone teaching, either implicitly or explicitly, that Christians can or should “charge the gates of Hell.’”

It is foolish, unbiblical, dangerous thinking.

Nowhere in Scripture are Christians instructed or called to do so.

It is a popular phrase, especially among the Pentecostal, charismatic – and new Calvinists – to use such language. But, again, it is unscriptural and dangerous advice. Yet, some brethren disregard Biblical truth and rush headlong into error, taking others with them by popular influence.

Jesus told Peter:

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.  – Matthew 16:18

Christ will build His church. Not you. Christ has defeated hell, sin and death, not you. Hell will always, as long as God allows, assault His church with the policies of Hell and the Devil and it will make war with the Lamb of God.

If a believer takes the position of “charging the gates of Hell”, what is he really doing and saying?

He is playing God, which he’s not. He’s, perhaps unintentionally, playing Savior. One who thinks in such terms has promoted himself, arrogantly, to the ability to charge the gates of hell, without Scriptural warrant, and in fact, has no ability to do so. If he does, he takes on the role of Messiah.

That’s certainly a fool.

Greater is He that is in you, than he who is in the world. But, Tony Miano, greater is the Devil than a self-appointed preacher, uncalled of God, not set apart by the Church as a pastor-teacher, who rejects pastoral authority [more on that to come] while encouraging others to do the same, seeks to play God, be popular and “charge the gates of Hell.”

The Devil is a lot smarter than you are. To encourage anyone to ‘charge the gates of Hell with the Word of God in one hand and…’ is simply foolish talk.

Rush in at your own spiritual risk, and remember, only fools rush in.
