Who’s the Real Bully?

WKBT anchor Jennifer Livingston took a moment during Tuesday’s morning newscast (Oct. 2, 2012) to directly address a recent email she received from a viewer complaining about her weight.

She calls the emailer a bully. But who’s the real bully here? The guy who sent a private email to the anchorwoman, or the the one who used her position in public broadcasting to throw down on a viewer?

My question would be, if you are “bigger” than the bully, why use your public influence and power/ability to make your case? Why not just dismiss the email from your head and get on with life? If her point in doing so was to teach her children a lesson, perhaps it would be wiser to do that at home, not in the public eye.

It’s a good lesson for bloggers, myself included, who are tempted to put the public smackdown on comment trolls and lawyers, isn’t it?
