Are You A Baby?
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is aninfant.
If all you offer to other Christians is the Gospel, then you are an infant, unskilled and unaccustomed in and to the Word of God.
There’s nothing a child hates to hear more than to be called a baby, but sometimes, it is necessary.
If your conversation to other Christians is only the Gospel, then my friend, you are just that, a baby. Suck it up. Move on. This passage in Hebrews chapter 5 is your rebuke from God, through the apostle Paul.
Time to grow up. Spiritual growth demands solid food, and our God has not left our plates empty. If you are a true believer in Christ, and you are caught up in this fad of Gospel contemplationism, that is, thinking that the Gospel holds the key to your sanctification, your growth to maturity in Christ, then you are still sucking on the proverbial teet, and have not the spiritual sense to grow up at all.
Read….the….Bible. It has a message for you altogether different from that being proclaimed by the young, restless and stupidly reformed.
The Gospel is not the A to Z of the Christian life, that is an ignorant lie.
The Apostle Paul was greatly disappointed that these Hebrew Christians had not moved on, away from the milk of the Gospel and on to maturity, very disappointed. Why should we also not be disappointed that our friends and families have been hoodwinked by celebrity preachers into thinking that the Gospel is everything – for the Christian!
It is NOT. And the Word of God says it clearly.
