Why I’ll Never Refer to the Gospel As ‘Scandalous’
I will never refer to the Gospel of Jesus Christ as scandalous because God, in His written Word to mankind, never did. Why then should I?
The Gospel is good news, not scandalous, that is, by definition – representative of wicked behavior.
Only Gods Son, Jesus, was ever referred to as such.
See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who believes in him will never be put to shame. – Romans 9:33
Jesus Christ, our Lord, is scandalous to the unregenerate world, particularly the Jews, but the Gospel is not.
So please stop calling the Gospel of Jesus Christ scandalous, especially when speaking to other believers in Christ.

Are you going to tell us what prompted this declaration? The cross is scandalous to those who are perishing.
The cross is foolishness. Big difference.
I still would like to know what prompted you to post your declaration and I am now interested where in the Bible the Lord Jesus is described as scandalous. Crucifixion on a cross was scandalous, as it was the most heinous form of execution, reserved for the “lowlifes.”
Actually, crucifixion on the cross was quite common with the Romans, wasn’t it? Check history. And, fyi, the greek word skandalon is used in the verse I quoted in the post young Manfred, and it is in reference to Jesus Himself. The word for ‘stumbling’ is ‘skandalon’ – where we get the word scandal and other derivatives. There are many, many more references I can give if you desire them which all show that the person of Jesus was to be, was, and remains, a scandal. But I would think this sufficient. Have a nice day brother.
Will you answer the question about what prompted you to post this?
New Calvinists abuse the term. Yes, as I said, Messiah on the cross was scandalous, because of the One on it.
Thanks for the reply. Once again, off you go pounding on the undefined enemy. This term has not been around long enough (as, say, “Arminianism”) for there to be a consensus on its meaning. I still don’t know what you consider the irreducible, heretical tenants of “New Calvinism” are.
Joel,
The message Paul preached was the scandal to the Jews. It was not only the message of Christ, but of “Christ crucified.” It was the preaching of the cross that was so hated. That, my brother, is the gospel. It was foolishness to the Greeks and a cause of offence to the Jews. Paul’s gospel was a hated message then as it is now. Of course, it is not a scandal to us; God has given us grace to believe it. To us it is the wisdom of God and the power of God.
