After almost no thought at all, I’ve decided to implement a new comment policy for this blog, effective immediately. It will be very simple, and it will be strictly enforced. No exceptions. Why? In the past, I have stupidly allowed this blog to be sullied unnecessarily because I made decisions against my better judgment regarding comments being posted. In a word, I was, at times, too soft –too many times. That was my doing, and I am completely responsible.
Now then. Before I give you the simplified policy, know the following:
I do appreciate your comments and I am pleased you have taken time to visit this thing. It is truly my hope that something here has benefitted you and will continue doing so.
This is not your blog, at all, even if it’s your favorite. You do not make the rules here. I do. It’s a shame that even needs to be said, but that needs to be clear. Remember, you have the option of starting your own blog, expressing your own opinions and making your own rules.
If you have strong dissenting feelings regarding a position or opinion posted, feel free to express it. I am not unteachable, and I do actually value your input. However, keep your comments brief, please. If they are lengthy comments, I prefer you send me an email via the contact page. If I consider your comment too lengthy, I will delete it in a half-a-heartbeat and won’t care who you are, what you think or how you feel about it so there’s no sense in you trying to tell the world how I didn’t post your previous comments in another, shorter comment. Ok?
Beginning this morning, I am retroactively deleting any and all comments in the past that violated any of the following rules, because I can. Global thermonuclear comment deletion.
That being said, here is the new policy. If you plan to comment here in the future, please know it thoroughly:
- Be nice, show respect to everyone, including me, even if you disagree.
- If you comment, you have no copyright. It’s mine to do with as I please.
- If I don’t like the link you embed in your comment, I will delete at my pleasure.
- If your comment is off topic, email me. It will not be posted. I don’t care who you are or how much influence you have.
- I decide if your comment goes through or not, not you. That’s just the way it is.
- If your comment includes Matthew 18 over a public issue, don’t bother commenting. it won’t see the light of day.
- Tyranny is not always bad. On this blog, I am the loving tyrant, like it or not. Get over it.
- I can delete anything at any time because I am that loving tyrant.
There now, any questions? Feel free to comment.
I understand Herr Commandant…
It’s your blog & you can do as you please . . .
Reminds me of a song. Something about a party … and crying … hmmmm
You’d cry too if it happened to you….
Good rules and good reasons.
I was directed over here when this post was suggested as a link for the post I am currently working on. I was a bit shocked.
I love long comments on my blog unless they are spam. And, though rare, I welcome dissenting views and as long as they are not obscene or inappropriate in any way I would never consider deleting them. I don’t feel that you are particularly welcoming, especially considering that your blog is what appears to be a Christian blog.
But you’re right–it’s your blog. I suppose this comment will be deleted and I will be cast away and rejected as a potential blog friend.
