Here is a highly recommended program series you need to hear if you desire a greater understanding of the dangers of the New Calvinism movement.
1. The first is entitled There Are No More Puritans!
This program profiles key leaders of the movement and highlights some of their erroneous beliefs and teachings. Among those profiled are Mark Driscoll, John Piper, John MacArthur, CJ Mahaney, Alister Begg, Mark Dever, Tim Keller, R.C. Sproul and Al Mohler and others.
2. The second in the series is called Secondary Separation & The New Calvinist Whirlpool with guest Rev. Ivan Foster.
3. The final program of the series is called The Ripening Corruption of New Calvinism: The Next Generation.
The main focus of this report, which includes many short sound bites, is the growing "Reformed" hip hop culture and the main players in that unfolding, at times shocking, tragedy.
I’m thinking two things:
1.) Anyone who’s written or spoken a bunch will have some error that can be pointed to. Some error more serious than others, some errors grow into serious false teaching.
2.) from what I’ve read from Dever and Mohler and Sproul, their errors come nowhere close to those of Driscoll, Keller, or Piper.
Ralph Ovadal isn’t in favor of modern translation of the Bible (me too). R.C. Sproul is well know to favor the ESV (NT translate on Nestle-Aland).
I found nothing bad in Mohler but he join Together for the Gospel with Driscoll, Mahaney and Piper.
Is the new Calvinists are our brothers in Christ? I do not think they are heretics.
I disagree with some of their teaching, but I still attend an “new calvinist” event recently. Is what I did wrong?
Do we have to separate us from our Christian brothers (truly saved) who are in error or in connection with apostates?
Mohler signed the Manhattan Declaration with roman catholic. Do we need to separate from them? This morning I think the answer should be positive.
If we separate from apostate and christian who don’t separate with apostate… Would I be alone?
The actual title of the first broadcast mentioned above is “They’re no Puritans: Profiles in New Calvinism.” It is a great message, but very disturbing. It exhorts us to be truly discerning in matters of doctrine. Thank you for all the insights you share on your blog.
