patriotic cross pin

Apparently, churches across the nation are being asked to re-dedicate America to God in a national covenant prayer on July 3 as an affirmation of God’s sovereignty over the U.S and to remind us of the founding fathers.

The prayer being distributed is:

Father,

As Your Christian nation, we affirm our covenant: You, the LORD, are the God of the USA and we are Your people. Jesus is our King. We obey what You say in the Holy Bible. We love You with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. We love one another as Jesus loved us. We ask You to forgive our sins by Jesus’ sacrifice.

In Jesus’ name. Amen. (Psalm 33:12, Mark 12:30, John 13:34, 2 Chronicles 15:12)

There are quite a few problems with this prayer, the primary one being that it simply is not true.

And which founding fathers are we to be reminded of? Thomas Jefferson, who called the gospels defective and portions of Scripture a dunghill, then cut up the Bible to remove all evidence of divinity? Or John Adams, who in the Treaty of Tripoli declared that America was not founded on the Christian religion?

You see, God doesn’t have a covenant with America. He has a covenant with Christ and those in Him, the Church. America is not a Christian nation, and the only hope for anyone living here, as elsewhere, is to repent and believe the Gospel of the Lord Jesus for salvation.

This latest stunt by idolatrous worshippers of patriotic America is little more than a national red, white and blue altar call.

“Yes, America, I see that hand……anyone else?….”
