Pelagius

Recently, I polled readers of 5ptsalt the following question:

If Pelagius was right 75% of the time, but wrong on some crucial doctrines, would you sit under his teaching in the name of being an ally for the Gospel?

The results?

80% of you overwhelmingly said ‘No’.

4% each said either yes, maybe or other.

I find that curious. I’m pleased to hear it, but it makes me curious.

I’m curious to know why so many professing Christians would refuse to sit under Pelagius, even though he was spot-on theologically correct 75% of the time, and yet wrong on a few crucial doctrines, which means on those crucial doctrines, there is no way you’re going to let that slide. Uh-uh.

I applaud you, consider yourself Amen’d and patted on the back. We’ll do the grill thing Saturday if it doesn’t rain (again).

However…….

The real reason I’m curious is, that according to a recent poll, over 65% of evangelicals believe that

  1. Jesus is not sitting on David’s throne, and thus not reigning as King yet.
  2. The same also look forward to the time when animal sacrifices will be restored in spite of the teaching of the book of Hebrews.
  3. That there are two ways of salvation – one for the Gentiles and another for the Jews. Gentiles by faith alone, Jews by faith and sight at the Second Advent where they will then have time for an opportunity to repent and mourn for their sins.
  4. And that the Church is to be looked at as ‘Plan B’ in God’s plan for mankind.

Does your pastor or teaching elder believe any of these things? If he does, know that they are important, crucial non-secondary doctrines of the Scripture….and, as just presented, they are false.

Do you know what your Pastor or teaching elder even believes regarding these things? If not, you do well to find out, and when you do, ask yourself, why would I not sit under Pelagius for being wrong on a few doctrines and yet I remain under these false teachings? They are all crucial doctrines in the Christian faith.

Do you know what your Pastor believes?
