I. The Cry of the Witness
“And Jesus cried out and said, "Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me.” (John 12:44). Faithful in its testimony and full in its promise.
II. The Cry of the Teacher
As he said these things, he called out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." (Luke 8:8). Powerful in utterance and practical in outcome.
III. The Cry of the Life-giver
When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out" (John 11:43). Quickening and liberating.
IV. The Cry of the Satisfier
On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink (John 7:37). Sure, lasting, refreshing and free.
V. The Cry of the Rebuker
So Jesus proclaimed, as he taught in the temple, "You know me, and you know where I come from?” (John 7:28). Searching and mouth-stopping.
VI. The Cry of the Surrenderer
Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!" And having said this he breathed his last. (Luke 23:46).
VII. The Cry of the Sufferer
And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" that is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Matt. 27:46). Cry of cries.
