National Geographic voted “The Capitol” as the best BBQ in the nation, or is it the world? Oh well, Pete Jones of Ayden, NC must be doing something right, and should be, the Jones family has been serving smoked BBQ since 1830.
It’s truly a shame that National Geographic did not have the opportunity to taste my BBQ. According to my wife, mine is the best in the world. Hmm, we may never know the truth on this one. Well, since humility has not escaped me, we’ll just overlook the discrepancy. Regardless, this video is a great story of a local North Carolina treasure. Enjoy.

From a Texas BBQ fan.
I’ll be smiling about that comment for some time, lol
I’ve had BBQ in many states and I have to say that the best is Lexington BBQ in Lexington, NC. I will give an honorable mention to Stamies in Greensboro, Fuzzie’s in Mayodan, NC and Bessinger’s in Columbia, SC.
The western stuff just doesn’t do it for me. Caribbean BBQ is pretty good and my wife tells me that BBQed goat in Mexico is pretty good. I’ll take her word on it…
BBQ’d goat? HA! Are you serious?
Si. I think they called it cabrito and it was smoked much like the NC pork BBQ. My wife said it was a little stringy but very lean and tasty. She also had Ox tongue tacos but that is another story…
Just for conversation – my wife ate a BBQ (cooked over an open fire) guinea pig while on a mission trip to Ecuador a few years back. They took her on the hunt as well – an honor given to guests.
One word for you: Memphis
