RBKuiper“At this point attention must be called to an aspect of election which is sometimes neglected by those who confess that doctrine. Most certainly election is unto salvation, but Scripture teaches no less emphatically that it is unto service. In fact, salvation and services are inseparable. Salvation is unto service.

The members of Christ’s church are God’s “workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works” (Ephesians 2:10): Because they were bought with a price, they are under the solemn obligation to glorify God in their bodies and their spirits, both of which are God’s (I Corinthians 6:20). Christ gave himself for them that He might redeem them from all iniquity and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous for good works (Titus 2:14). And let it be said with all possible emphasis – God chose His church in sovereign love, the Son bought it with His precious blood, and the Holy Spirit came to dwell within it, to the end that it might witness. It is a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that it might show forth the praises of Him who called it out of darkness into His marvelous light (I Peter 2:9).

The church consists of those who love and serve the triune God because He first loved them.”
