Actually I didn’t laugh. The “Daniel Plan” is pathetic. The picture, the visual in my head, of Daniel, an Angel, and God’s providence were much more enlightening. It was actually rather sober in that respect. Even without the heretic and the plan it was humorous and edifying though.
Thanks for posting it.
I have no knowledge of “Rick Warren’s Daniel Fast” program; but I guess some people see fasting as a diet. God says much in His Word about fasting and Jesus spoke about it also – praying and fasting.
There are various ways of fasting, many people choose the Daniel Fast found in The Bible, some the water only fast.
Applying the prayer on the poster – to ask God to shut our mouths on a daily basis, so we are able to push the plate away would help us against the sin of gluttony……
With all due respect, there was no Daniel Fast. He, and they, actually got fatter not eating the kings food (Dn 1:12). The only “fast” mentioned in the ESV Daniel is 6:12, where the king is “fast” in his stance of the law.
The fasting the Lord and the bible speaks of were not in your face lets tell the world what we are doing fasts either. I seem to recall 40 days in the desert, alone, for one example.
Everything the so called Daniel plan purports is put out in obstentious display, not as the Lord directed (Mt 6:16).
One can certainly water fast, if one does it to the Lord, but boasting is excluded.
I have no link, allegiance, do not read, follow nor listen to Rick Warren and have no knowledge of “his” Daniel Fast.
I have chosen to join in with my church, friends and chosen with my husband to enter into various types of fasts for various reasons. Of which they have been often what we call “Daniel Fasts” – not a diet to lose weight – but a time of praying and fasting – centering in on God, seeking Him, pushing aside all things of the world as much as possible.
These are not things we announce to others when we do this, we do not walk around all sad in sackcloth, we keep it private with The Lord.
People in third world countries that are beaten and often thrown in prison will try to follow the pattern Peter showed by singing hymns and praising God. I am sure this not only works as a witness, but it pleases God. They follow Peter’s example not to follow any letter of the law…
If it offends people when I use the term “Daniel Fast” then I am sorry, but I do not believe it’s unscriptural.
