“Wasted Faith” by Jim Elliff addresses evangelicalism’s most urgent need!
“What is most alarming is this risky willingness of today’s evangelicals to gamble eternity on an emotional one-time experience, or a ‘sinners prayer’ properly prayed, or some feeling of substantial relief at a juncture in time, without ever taking a serious look at what is evident now, at this moment. Is eternal life of so little value that it becomes a waste of time to examine ourselves for evidence of it?”

There you go again, JT. This book is divisive and dogmatic. How do expect anyone to build a church of 80,000 when you expect anyone to examine ‘decisions’ to see if they are real??? (sarcasm intended)
This sounds like a great book! The fruit of ‘ministries’ like Saddleback, Osteenville, and others are the exact reason why a book like this is so important. This book throws a lifeline to the deceived and asurance to the saved but confused. I like the idea of keeping copies on hand to give to others. I think I will do that as well.
I’m divisive and dogmatic because…… well, mama said, so there.
I read the comments on Challies and think all ya’ll are narrow minded (Matt 7:14). Joel – it wasn’t your mama who said, it was your “hottest papa”
And, in keeping with the narrow mindedness of this site, I offer a wonderful quote from another such person – guess who said this: “God chooses not milksops destitute of backbone, to wear his glory upon their faces. We have plenty of men made of sugar, nowadays, that melt into the stream of popular opinion; but these shall never ascend into the hill of the Lord, nor stand in his holy place, nor wear the tokens of his glory.”
Hmm. Spurgeon?
No fair! You have a dizzying intellect!
Joel Osteen? Benny Hinn? Pope Whomever the XII?
Nah, it sounded very Spurgeinesque to me as well even though I was not certain of it.
Truthy,
Osteen, Hinn, any pope – these are all described by Spurgeon in that quote, quite accurately, as “men made of sugar … that melt into the stream of popular opinion”
So you are right, kinda
