Dr. V, driven by destiny, future, heresy, keys, LaVerne Adams, mysticism, Rick Warren, secret
“America’s pastor” is at it again, promoting more me-centered everything. Yes, boys and girls, Rick Warren, the faucet of doctrinal folly has written the forward to one very interesting book written by the Rev. (no less) Dr. LaVerne Adams, or perhaps I should refer to her by her popular moniker “Dr. V! The Divine Destiny Doctor.” The good Doc is a self-proclaimed self-improvement specialist so it only seems natural that Rick Warren would write the forward doesn’t it?
You betcha.
The book, to be released 10-10-10 is entitled Driven by Destiny: 12 Secret Keys To Unlock Your Future.
The title alone, among other things, screams me-centered mysticism doesn’t it? But let’s not rush to judgment here, at least not without taking a look at the books promotion. Check this out:
Have you ever taken a destiny detour? If you constantly wrestle with feelings of distraction, frustration, and defeat, these are dangerous signals that you are going in the wrong direction! No matter where life has taken you, NOW you can be guided toward the location and the exact positioning of your divine destiny.
It’s not too late…your destiny awaits.
In this helpful destiny travel guide, your future is presented as a “metaphorical journey” through divine dimensions that usher you into revelation, realization, and realignment with your purpose in life. This dynamic journey to transformation will get on the right road to fulfilling your destiny and cause you to be fully engaged in this dynamic process.
This destiny roadmap is your vehicle to a better life to help you to:
DIALOGUE with the Creator about your divine purpose
DISCERN the road blocks and detours to your destiny
DISCOVER the hidden riches and secrets on the inside of you
DEVELOP new disciplines to help you live the life of your dreams
There is no need to wait! Start today and cross the bridge to a dynamic future as you chart a new course. Activate the keys found in this book and you’ll discover the secret to living a life Driven by Destiny!
Just what the Church needs, another self-promoting guru claiming access to “divine dimensions” to help usher us into “revelations” apart from the only true guide for life and the only revelation that matters, the Word of God.
Dialogue with the Creator? Activate the secret keys? Really??
But wait! there’s more! Apparently, without this book in our needful hands, we may actually be risking fate, and we are told that that, my friends, could lead to our demise:
"DON’T WAIT FOR FATE TO JUST HAPPEN TO YOU! THIS COULD BE FATAL! MAKE A DESTINY DECISION TO ADVANCE TOWARD MAKING YOUR DESTINY DREAM YOUR CURRENT REALITY! CONTACT ME TODAY! I CAN HELP YOU GET STARTED ON THE JOURNEY OF LIVING THE LIFE OF YOUR DREAMS!" – Dr. LaVerne Adams
In the books promotional video below, you will see this:
Define Your Destiny! Now!
Develop Your Potential! Now!
Determine Your Direction! Now!
Design Your Dreams! Now!The Word of God tells us in Proverbs that “The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. “ (16:1) and “The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.” (16:9).
You may certainly buy the book and scheme and plan your “destiny” all you desire, but the sovereign ruler of the universe, who holds all things together will determine by His own free volition whether He gives to or takes from you.
Rick Warren, by writing the forward and lending his name to this man-centered garbage, is putting his stamp of approval on the doctrines taught within the book itself.
It is the doctrines Warren is lending credence to which I so strongly object. The potential influence of Warren’s stamp of approval on such mystical, anti-biblical, unchristian teachings is frightening and his involvement is shameful to say the least. It is worse, it is promoting idolatry.
So what’s it going to be readers? Will you take the leap of fate and buy into this man-centered gospel of lies or stick with the only sure guide for life and godliness, the Bible alone?
Vultures of a feather…
Seeing this type of garbage makes me sick. Many young people who have grown up with Relevant Rick being something of a hero are now getting old enough to make leadership decisions at work, at home, and at church… scary! Many of these youngsters thing Rick is Biblcal…doubly scary!
Seeing RW and others continue to prosper is proof of God’s judgement upon America IMHO.
…and they are raising their children to believe in these same false teachings!
It gets even worse as pastrix Dr, V tells us at her website: http://drivenbydestinynow.com/about.html
Dr. Adams…also teaches Bible and Foundations for Christian Spirituality at Eastern University’s Esperanza College. She is a recognized church leader with the American Baptist Churches, USA and is a member of the Abundant Harvest Fellowship of Churches under the direction of Bishop David Evans.
That guy David Evans is a wacked Word Faith teacher and a regular on TBN:

And in typical WF fashion Dr. V. speaks things into existence: http://drivenbydestinynow.com/blog/index.php?p=exceptional-speak-existence
Today is an exceptional day! For one reason and one reason only. Because I said so! What is it that you need to speak into existence? Dr. V!
Thanks for the additional info on this “lady pastor.”, Ken. I think the key word here was your appropriate use of the word, “wacked”. I wonder how man pre-orders have been received for this next bestseller?
Pastor Ken right on target, as usual. Hardest working discernment minister I have ever read!!!
Thanks.

What a sad sad day as we see before our very eyes those who have a knowledge of God but deny His power in their lives and the lives of others. They are blind leaders of the blind who heap upon the poor souls that follow them burdens they can’t even carry themselves, making them twice the sons of hell than themselves. It would be better if a milstone were hung around their neck and they be cast into the depth of the sea. A sad day indeed.
Having read the Purpose Drivel Life (authored by RW) and Life’s Healing Choices (foreword by RW), I can honestly say that I will avoid this book like the plague.
PDL was a half-way decent book that was extra-lite on exegesis and awful heavy on sentimentality.
LHC is Saddleback’s version of a 12-step program to restore us from life’s “hurts, habits and hangups.” This book uses the Beatitudes as life’s healing choices and the keys to unlocking God’s blessings (you know, God wants us happy!). I couldn’t finish the book, it was so bad!
You may ask “why did I read these books?” The church I’m part of used both of these books for our fall church-wide study (an attempt to get all small groups on the same page once a year). I read them as part of our small group.
You may again ask, “why am I still at this church?” Mainly because my wife isn’t ready to leave. I have made the switch from a Calvinistic Evangelical to a full-fledged Reformed Calvinist. My wife is not nearly at that stage in her life. Secondarily, the church we attend, while not completely to my tastes, is not guilty of compromising the gospel. I have brought my concerns to the attention of the elders and they partly agreed with my assessments. Thirdly, I have been blessed to find a Reformed Presbyterian congregation close to home that meets after our service at our home church, so I attend there to get my mind right…
Bottom line: Like so many other evangelical “superstars” I believe Warren is starting to believe his own press-clippings. Yes, he does a lot of charity work. Yes, he supports a lot of missionary work. But this drivel he writes and endorses almost cancels out all the good he actually does.

I was in a Bible study at a local church that was using The Purpose Driven Life. When I noticed that Rick Warren uses The Message, that was a huge red flag! I finally left the Bible study, and that church!
I’m beginning to wonder if I just might see the day when it will be nearly impossible to find a good church ….
Stay in the Word (the Bible) daily, and test the spirits, and pray that God will give you His discernment ….
