This guy is dead-on target. To think there is a need to engage the culture reveals a ministry is already drifting. I like how this speaker countered the false notion with reminding us of God’s sovereignty and our need of Him.
Where are the ‘reformed rappers’? Where are the garage band cultural music jammers that replaced worshipful music in church? Where are the preachers who decided to fill the building instead of preach the Gospel?
See that no one takes you captive with philosophies and deceit…
One more thing about engaging the culture. I can tell you from my education and experience that to engage the culture is to affirm it! That’s right. When the church engages the culture it is sending both an implied and an expressed message that ‘we need you’ and ‘you are in control’. This is exactly opposite to the message we should be sending. Read any decent advertising or marketing book. When you pitch something to an audience as opposed to declaring it, you are telling the audience that they hold all the cards.
“Every human culture is fundamentally apostate.” BINGO! More of this guy He is narrow mindedly determined to bring our the importance of the Gospel! He reminds me of Voddie Baucham, only older. The church is a 24/7 thing that has no close fellowship with our personal preference cultural tastes. Spot on and praise the Lord for men who are faithful to preach the Word!
Although his attire looks like the culture of preacher-dudes
