Convicting. Although it should be noted that there’s a difference between offering a defense and being defensive. The challenge, I guess is knowing which is your motivation, yeah?
True, good point!
I agree with this wholeheartedly.
Aaron is right there is a huge difference between offering a defense
and BEING defensive.
Most times the one bringing the railing accusation has not removed
the mote or BEAM in their own eye.
Lord help us all!
Si, I agree with this. Defensiveness is either rooted in the lack of confidence in one’s position or the protection of one’s self image. PRIDE. We are all guilty but hopefully we are all gaining ground toward being more like Him.
Having said that, we MUST defend the faith. I too often see good Christian people who believe they should neve contend with anyone since they do not want to be defensive or devisive. We HAVE to contend for the faith because the Bible says so. The rise of the Warrens and McLarens is partly due to the real church’s lack of guts in doing what the Bible requires us to do…
JT, I love the changes you have made to your site. You are da man! I bow to your blogger superiority…

Yes… I’ve noticed a particular kind of defensiveness that occasionally crops up in myself: The need to explain to a critic, “I already knew that! You just didn’t understand!” (It’s not enough for us to be on the same page. I need you to acknowledge that I was already there.)
Interestingly enough, pride can also manifest as the opposite of defensiveness: “Responding or defending is a waste of my time. It’s beneath me.”
So, a total lack of concern with engaging critiques is also a sign of pride.
