Remembering Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
March 1, 2010 2 Comments
David Martyn Lloyd-Jones (20 December 1899 – 1 March 1981) went “to go away from home out of the body, and to come home to the Lord” (1) 29 years ago today.
J.C. Ryle, in his work “Christian Leaders Of The 18th Century” asked an important question regarding the great evangelists before his own time:
“Who were the men that revived religion in England a hundred years ago? What were their names, that we may do them honour? Where were they born? How were they educated? What are the leading facts in their lives? What was their special department of labour?
He went on to say:
“I pity the man who takes no interests in such inquiries. The instruments that God employs to do His work in the world deserve close inspection. The man who did not care to look at the rams’ horns that blew down Jericho, the hammer and nail that slew Sisera, the lamps and trumpets of Gideon, the sling and stone of David, might fairly be set down as a cold and heartless person.”
The same could be said of those today who have no interests in the lives and influences of those men of God who have gone before us – and of whom God has used mightily. It is important. It is beneficial. Scripture reminds us to:
“Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” – Hebrews 13:7, 8 (ESV)
Dr. David Martyn Lloyd-Jones has long been considered one of the greatest preachers of modern time. He was – and still is – used mightily of God. We do well to remember and honor his life, and by doing so, glorify the God who used him.
– Joel

A few years ago Mark Dever interviewed Lady Elizabeth and her husband, Sir Fred Catherwood, about the famed preacher: D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones: Reflections on His Ministry with His Family.
(1.) 2 Corinthians 5:8 (LITV)

I love his book, Studies in the Sermon on the Mount; should be a must-read for every believer.
I totally agree with JC Ryle about this. Most of these men who have been gone a while I had never even heard of before. I was not taught anything about their existence even.
When I left my church and started looking for sermons on the internet I came across sites that
posted sermons from and info about these kinds of men. what an eye opener.
There is a great benefit to believers everywhere to have access to what those men preached and wrote.
Praise God for all the sites that promote the good stuff.
