“According to some prominent evangelical leaders, we’ve been fighting the wrong war. Protestants, Catholics, and other religious people should quit bickering over issues of heaven and hell and unite in the culture war….Wait a minute…what’s wrong with this picture?”
What gets me about this book (Ecumenical Jihad) is according to Mac, JI Packer’s comment on the backs asks, “What if he’s right?” What??? JI Packer?? I am now reading JI Packer’s book, In My Place Condemned. JI either didn’t read the book he endorsed or he didn’t write his own. It is almost to the point I don’t know who to believe. And what’s with your comments? James 5:12.
Men are fallible. I wish Packer had not endorsed the book, but he did. I don’t always agree with MacArthur either. That’s why it’s so important not to get ‘caught up’ in following any one particular preacher. It’s like reading any book, there’s bound to be something profitable in most, but sometimes you have to wade through garbage to find it. Sola Scriptura….that’s what you believe, all else, and all others are going to sooner or later, let you down.
You are right, Sola Scriptura. Thank you for that reminder and admonition.
…and what comments?? You agreed about Mac being narrow minded. Why did you think Mac was narrow minded? What did I miss?
I did understand the sarcasm. That is why I posted James 5:12. I come to your site because I value it, and know that I can learn much from it. There are links I feel I can trust on your site but because of my own ignorance and my newness to the Reformation, I read comments in hopes I can learn something. Surely, I am not the only person who comes to your site to learn and when you make sarcastic remarks, it doesn’t help us at all. In fact, it may make some people too intimidated to comment. I on the other hand, am as old as dirt, and I don’t care about intimidation any more. I just thought you might like to know that I come here to learn.
Amen to Manfred (as usual) and to the rest of you as well. John MacArthur has a way of saying what needs to be said. I have to admit that many years ago, I would get put off by some things that he taught and some of his opinions about scripture. After careful study and prayer, I would slink away realising he was CORRECT! This guy is dead on most of the time. Now, I would never say to follow ANY man blindly but MacArthur is certainly special because he values scripture so much. I still question him against scripture as we should all men who teach. I thank God for Mac and for many others who hold a very high value for God and His word.
I have never heard anyone say, “Wow, Brian McLaren really opened scripture for us today. I learned so much about God’s word…” have you? Didn’t think so………………….
Mac is soooooo narrow minded
Aint he though? lol

You missed the sarcasm and the smiley faces, lol. One thing about writing, sometimes it’s difficult to show inflection
Narrow minded as in the narrow gate vs the wide gate
Amen, that too!

Your welcome, and thank you for this site. Lord bless you, Numbers 6:24-26. And thanks for letting me comment.
