New Book Release: A Sincere and Pure Devotion to Christ
Devotional works from Dr. Sam Storms: “These meditations on 2 Corinthians will help readers grow in their devotion to Christ and find their joy in him.
Second Corinthians is unique in the New Testament in the way it portrays the sufferings of Paul and the supremacy of Christ. The apostle’s affection for the Corinthian church and his endurance through hardship for their joy testifies to his deep devotion to Christ. Paul’s example and instruction in this letter inspires us to find our joy in Jesus.”
Diego “Nightmare” Sanchez, a prominent Christian fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship league gives his reasons for shedding the blood of others, including a definition of ‘being missional’ in this video. Hmm.
An Obituary for the Emerging Church
“The Emerging Church, A Controversial movement inspiring many the past 10 years, Dies at 21
MINNEAPOLIS — The Emerging Church, the controversial Christian movement that inspired many to plant churches, leave behind their faith and question authority, died in her sleep Thursday following a short illness. She was 21 (according to some sources)…”
The Problem of Evangelical Biblical Illiteracy
Satan’s use of Scripture in tempting Jesus is clear indication that a merely cognitive level of biblical literacy does not automatically result in the formation of a Christian character.
Tea Party: America’s Third Great Awakening?
“America’s prior Great Awakenings, in the 18th and 19th Centuries, were religious in nature. Unimpressed with self-serving, ossified, and often corrupt religious institutions, Americans responded with a bottom-up reassertion of faith, and independence.
This time, it’s different. It’s not America’s churches and seminaries that are in trouble: It’s America’s politicians and parties. They’ve grown corrupt, venal, and out-of-touch with the values, and the people, that they’re supposed to represent. So the people, once again, are reasserting themselves.”
“This blog is about Gadgets alone. For the reformed gadget geek.
Not only do I hope to review some of the latest cell phones, techno devices and gadgets on the planet. I also hope to review and discuss ways these new devices can be used to further the Gospel.”
Re: fighting for Jesus; hogwash. Same old deceptive conforming to the culture in order to reach it with “Jesus” as we’ve heard from seeker sensitive types for years.
Re: An Obituary for the Emergent Church; LOL! Quite a wit and very much on target. This paragraph is pure gold, of a non-metal kind:
“She is survived by her parents, the Seeker Church, and Sojourners; her paternal grandmother, the former Deconstructionism, now Postmodernity; her maternal grandmother, French Nihilism and her paternal great-grandparents, the Social Gospel and Fundamentalism. Her paternal grandfather, the Jesus Movement died months before her birth. Her paternal grandmother, Evangelicalism died in 2009. She is also survived by sister House Church movement and brother New Monastacism. She is also survived by two sons, Presbymergent and Something-in-Europe People Say is Relevant; and 10 grandchildren (that won’t scare your grandparents), along with ex-husbands Mark Driscoll and the Origins Movement. “
Re: Sola Gadgeta; Is there no end to the madness? My apologies for posting three separate times – I had no intention of viewing so many of these links. This one is wretched beyond words. Driscoll thinks a virtual connection allows him to pastor people? Has he – and others who think this way cool – totally forgotten the mandate to be the care-takers of the souls of the flock entrusted to his care by our chief Shepherd? Children of God, flee such nonsense! Pastors – rebuke this for what it is, a detriment to the spiritual health of your flock. Somebody make an Internet filter to block Driscoll’s face from the screen!
I agree with Manfred above in regards to fighting for Jesus as hogwash. I see fighting for Jesus if that’s what you want to call it as someone out on the street corners preaching God’s word.
Yea, preaching, teaching, helping the truly needy, encouraging the faithful as they grow in maturity… boy, those were the days!
Nowadays its faces on billboards and multi-site video screens, facebook, twitter, ego-centric webpages… there is just no end to the egos of some of these guys. And what about guaranteed appearance money to speak…? Sissies! That’s not real ministry…
Ok, I’ll stop now.
