Over the past year, many readers have read the ‘Puritan Prayers’ on 5ptsalt.com and seen the link to ‘Why Puritan Prayers’? at the end of each. It’s a link to why I post puritan prayers.

In that post, I feebly tried to explain why the prayers are so important to me. I mentioned my first church bulletin that I had a hand in, my father being a Baptist pastor who graciously indulged my wishes, and I said this:

In the early 1970’s, my father, a Baptist pastor-teacher, allowed his young son (moi)  to actually ‘design’ (read ‘doodle’) the cover of the church bulletin. Of course, it was beautiful. A fully hand-crafted cartoon of the Peanut characters: Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus, and that girl, I forget her name….

Well, turns out my memory did not serve me as I’d hoped. I was wrong. There was no Linus in my first church bulletin, and ‘that girl’ I couldn’t remember (who turns out to be ‘Lucy’) was no where in sight.

Today, in the spirit of fond memories of Christmas past, I dug through photos and memorabilia and ran across this….how about that? Just Charlie Brown.

I’m not sure how much edification you’ll get out of this post, probably none, but then again, you’ve been disappointed before haven’t you?

Let’s both try and not do that again. :)

Anyway, the caption of the bulletin reads

“Wanted: To Remember the Real Meaning Of Christmas”.

I still hold to that sentiment, and post this without shame. I was 11 when I wrote those eternal, profound words of youthful wisdom. Obviously gifted, it’s a shock that revival didn’t break out in southeastern Arkansas in 1973.

Oh by the way, check out the size of that tree trunk. ;)
