Ok, so the title was just to reel you in. It worked didn’t it?
It’s a good question though, and I think worthy of consideration. For those who need a bit more clarity on the issue, I’ll translate: should Christians block other Christians from following them on Twitter?
Before you dismiss this question, let me ask you this: Do you truly love the brethren - all of them? The fat, lazy, skinny, irritating, famous or otherwise tweeps who, to the best of our knowledge, are co-heirs to the kingdom of God?
I’m thinking that if you block anyone from following you who is not an obvious criminal, heretic, or purveyor of porn, you may need to re-evaluate your reasons for using ‘the block’ on other Christians.
Granted, if a professor of Christ is tweeting erroneous doctrine, you could make an argument for it. But isn’t our responsibility first to rebuke, reprove and correct that doctrinal error in love and with the end goal being reconciliation to the Truth (2 Tim. 3:16)?
Maybe you just don’t like this person who’s been following you and cramping your free-style glory by throwing in replies that make you look more like the Geico cave-man than the righteous dude (or dudette) that you see yourself as?
Repent. Stop it. You’re wrong. I really don’t care who your are. It doesn’t matter how many awards you’ve won for whatever you do, or how in demand you are to speak, write or flagellate your wisdom upon others. If you are blocking professing Christians from following you, you have (yet additional) sin issues. The mother of which is pride. Stop it. Mortify it. Re-evaluate your thinking according to the written Word of God. Focus on what Christ has done for you and think again on the meaning of justification by faith alone.
Fact is, regardless of who you may be, and all the success or failure God has ordained and brought to your life, you are wicked, with an amazingly deceitful heart above all things (Jer. 17) and quite frankly, you’re just as crummy a human being as that asthma-ridden, smart alek little ‘heretic’ who has been begging you to defend yourself and your doctrine before the world. Yes I know, “But I’m in Christ!” That may be true, but you still dwell in sinful flesh.
You’re not special (seriously, at least in the many ways you may think).
Jesus Christ is.
Bottom line, we are to love the brethren, not for who they are, but for who He is. Not because those little twitter twits may have potential, but because Christ Jesus has manifest Himself in their lives! Love them for the attributes of Christ you see in them!
One last thing, and then I have to take the trash out, really. I’ve only been blocked by two people that I know of. One is Rick Warren. The other is a Christian, … with sin issues, namely pride.
You got blocked by Rick Warren? I thought he accepted everybody, even heretics?
Ok Carl, that hurt (but not really) lol
I am not surprised that the Relevant One blocked you… You probably cause him to be convicted of his chicanery.
I have not blocked anyone from following my blog but I have stopped following a few other’s blogs. I countered their unBiblicalness with several back & forths showing scripture and asking questions. Once it became obvious nothing was happening of a fruitful nature, I shook off the dust and went to others. I still look back to them from time to time but I do not follow them. Does this count?
One thing I have noticed that has caused me to be encouraged is this. I went up against some hardline emergents once. It was civil but intense. One of them eventually admitted that some of the things they ‘believe’ cannot be substantiated as being true and there is a good chance they are wrong about some significant things. I thought this was monumental. This should make them uncomfortable with their religion. Anyhoo, keep up the good work…
