Last night I watched an amazing presentation by David Barton, founder and president of Wallbuilders, which is:

“an organization dedicated to presenting America’s forgotten history and heroes, with an emphasis on the moral, religious, and constitutional foundation on which America was built – a foundation which, in recent years, has been seriously attacked and undermined. In accord with what was so accurately stated by George Washington, we believe that “the propitious [favorable] smiles of heaven can never be expected on a nation which disregards the eternal rules of order and right which heaven itself has ordained.”

Their website, which you can view here, states that their goal…

is to exert a direct and positive influence in government, education, and the family by (1) educating the nation concerning the Godly foundation of our country; (2) providing information to federal, state, and local officials as they develop public policies which reflect Biblical values; and (3) encouraging Christians to be involved in the civic arena.

The presentation I watched was actually a DVD released by Charles Stanley’s InTouch Ministries. Barton’s presentation, I think are available on both sites.

Now, I am a history buff. I love American history, and it never fails that the further I dig into it, the more I am amazed at the impact of Scripture on our founding fathers. While skeptical of many of them, critical of others (Jefferson, Franklin for example), it is the men who never came to the spotlight, who are rarely ever mentioned in history books, particularly nowadays, that are brought to the forefront of Barton’s presentation.

With all the talk today of government corruption, the continued and accelerating erosion of our freedoms as citizens, watching Barton’s presentation was a welcomed moment for me to stop and reflect on our American history, to learn things I’d never known concerning some of the unsung  ‘heroes’ of our country, the extent of their dedication and commitment as citizens, and what they had personally sacrificed for our freedoms – or at least the freedoms we used to possess. :) More importantly perhaps, it may very well help me to contemplate and address our current situation with a newly refreshed perspective.

I highly encourage you to watch the series of videos below. They are not that long, and I dare say you will be encouraged.

In this In-Touch July 4th, 2009 message titled “Is America A Christian Nation?”, Dr. Stanley’s guest, Historian, David Barton, shares the historical facts about how America was founded on Biblical principles. A wonderful history lesson here.
