James MacDonald: Brian McLaren Is A False Teacher And A Danger To Young People

James MacDonald of Harvest Bible Fellowship has some insightful commentary on the dangers of false teacher Brian McLaren in a post on their blog Straight Up.  Entitled “The Public Rebuke of False Teachers” MacDonald drives home the point that “all denials of orthodox Christianity end up in a theological dumpster, not bearing fruit or winning souls to Christ.”

Among his comments:

I do not view Brian as an ‘erring weaker brother,’ worthy of sympathy or olive branches, but rather as a dangerous false teacher who repackages mainline liberal theology. (Have the past 50 years not been adequate to see how liberal theology empties churches and damns souls?)

More dangerous still is that McLaren packages his false teaching and denials of Scripture as  solutions to some of the excesses currently plaguing evangelicalism—the danger being his winning over of young people who have legitimate complaints about the current church, but who lack the discernment to see that his solutions are often unbiblical even when his critiques are fair.

MacDonald goes on to point out in previous articles how McLaren rejects the question of Hell outright as inappropriate and equates substitutionary atonement with divine child abuse.

There are many of you reading this who are all too aware of the heretical teachings of this man, and for you, this is no surprise. Yet, for those whom I consider my friends in Christ who are still reading this man’s unorthodox garbage and buying into his lies hook-line-and sinker, I will make yet another plea for you to listen.

Brian McLaren is a dangerous man among many, and yes, should be rebuked publicly, over and over again for the sake of those souls who are being deceived by him. And if there are any doubts concerning this man’s teachings, the following video should remove them! In this video, by alittleleaven.com, Brian McLaren denies not only Hell, but also the penal substitutionary atonement. -JT
